This is episode 4 of my indie game Devlog. This episode picks up right after episode 3 and covers all the development updates till today. Aside from creating the new animations and implementing them into the game, I go over some custom movement mechanics, the first interactable elements of the game like a treasure chest and doors, as well as the world building of the first prototype level.
What will I be working on going forward? Before spending any additional time on animation or movement mechanics, I want to focus on the iteration of the first UI, as well as character stats, such as health and stamina. Beyond that, items that can heal the character.
This Devlog is going to chronicle my journey into the world of game development and becoming an indie game developer. I am completely new to making games. Back in college I studied 3D game animation, but my skills took me into the world of 2D character animation.
For this project I'm using Unreal Engine 5 and whatever tutorials I can find on the internet. The game itself will be a side scroller, platformer and dungeon crawler. I'm trying to pull of a 2.5D style, but we'll see where the journey will take this project. Any important links are down below.
Do you want me to make a separate video on the creation of animations and giving a small tutorial series on how to approach run cycles etc.? Let me know in the comments.
